About Strait Thunder!



Strait Thunder will attract the fastest and most competetive hydroplane teams as this is the last race of the season and the teams are vying for championship points. The course is a one and a quarter mile loop that will provide exceptional viewing from the City Pier and the Olympic Discovery Trail, making this event very spectator friendly. Make your reservations early for what should be a great weekend of boat racing. ...............................................

Port Angeles Harbor along the waterfront trail from the City Pier to Rayonier Mill site.

When:

October 3rd, 4th and 5th, 2008 Who: The Unlimited Light Hydroplanes are the Thunder Boats that race at Sea Fair, Phoenix, South Dakota, Richland, Silverdale, and the Tri-Cities, Washington. Now coming to Port Angeles. It is a privilege to part of the Unlimited Light Hydroplane Racing Association sanctioned race schedule. Final race of the season. The Unlimited Light Hydroplanes are: 20 to 26 feet long and 11-12 feet wide. They are Gas powered up to 800 hp and reach speeds up to 165mph.

Why:

To promote Port Angeles as a destination and create an economic impact in the shoulder tourist season. The stimulus of the influx of race participants and spectators will impact lodging from motels to RV parks, restaurants and retail businesses for the entire weekend. To have an event that the entire family on the Peninsula will come and enjoy. Event proceeds will benefit the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program.

The Peninsula Water Sports Association,(PWSA), a non-profit organization, is working to bring this spectacular event to the Olympic Peninsula. The goal of P.W.S.A is create an event that will become an annual race and festival.
